The most up-to-date book on Orders of Knighthood and the Holy See is Dr Peter Bander van Duren’s Orders of Knighthood and of Merit (subtitled The Pontifical, Religious and Secularised Catholic-founded Orders, and their relationship to the Apostolic See) which was established in 1995 at £65.00. It is 780 pages in length and has over 400 illustrations in monochrome and 130 in colour). It supersedes two earlier works, Archbishop H. E. Cardinale’s Orders of Knighthood, Awards and the Holy See (edited and revised by Peter Bander van Duren, 1985, £35.00) and the latter’s The Cross on the Sword ( 1987, £20), which is mainly about Pontifical Orders of Knighthood.
